A deal to sell Penn State’s Shenango campus in Sharon is in the works, the university said Friday afternoon.

“Penn State’s Board of Trustees will consider proposed real estate transactions involving Penn State Shenango and Penn State Wilkes-Barre at its meetings on September 17-18, as part of the ongoing, deliberate process to determine the future of each closing campus property,’’ Penn State said in a statement to The Herald, resulting from an inquiry.

“This work has included extensive engagement with local communities, economic development organizations and elected officials,’’ the statement said. The university didn’t identify the potential buyer.
