Abigail Hakas

Editor, Latrobe Bulletin

"I was offered a position as an editor at 22 solely because of the work I did for the [PMP] newsroom. Having the chance to take my time on stories, build a compelling narrative and push past surface-level coverage allowed me to rethink how I cover stories, and I'll carry that with me throughout my career."

"The PMP internship was truly such a great experience that I don't think I could have gotten anywhere else..., [it] allowed for me to realize what specifically I want in a journalism-based career and helped me remember what drew me to the field to begin with."

Summer internship pROGRAM

The PMP summer internship program is designed to bring aspiring journalists from across southwestern Pennsylvania into local newsrooms throughout the region.

During the 10-week program, interns gain hands-on experience working with PMP member newsrooms and take part in professional development and networking opportunities.

“The program is one of the best of its kind. I love the weekly trainings by the partner newsrooms, and the class of interns is always highest quality.”

Danya Henninger

Editorial Director, Technical.ly (2026 cohort)

“This internship cemented my decision to pursue a career in journalism…, I realized how much I love working at local news outlets and helping the community through reporting and writing about things that are important to them.”

Alexandra Keim

Summer '26 Intern, Latrobe Bulletin

“The best part about having an intern is the energy that they bring to the newsroom – it’s great to get new perspectives, and my team gets excited about helping them and teaching them about business journalism!”

Jennifer Beahm

Editor-In-Chief, Pittsburgh Business Times (2025 cohort)

“[This internship] was a huge doubt destroyer, as before the internship I was worried if I would be able to survive in a professional media newsroom [...] Now, I've learned that I can handle it and handle it well.”

Cayden Hyde

Summer '26 Intern, Indiana Gazette

“Being such a small newsroom, having a PMP Intern helped us to cover stories we would never have otherwise had the time to cover, greatly expanding our coverage options.”

Sean Ray

Editor, The Northside Chronicle (2025 cohort)

“The weekly workshops from editors gave me much more insight into journalism as a career and what I wouldn't have learned in any of my classes.”

Riona Duncan
