A Neshannock High School senior who fled his home in war-torn Ukraine with his mother and sister asked schoolmates to write letters to soldiers on the front line to lift their spirits.

The response was overwhelming.

Aresenii said he expected 10 letters, but received 300 thanks to school administrators who helped organize the campaign. The letters will be delivered to Ukrainian soldiers within two weeks.

“I’m really happy and thankful for all the students who wrote the letters,” said Aresenii, who wished not to share his last name.

Freshman Emery Calton was among the letter-writers. She wrote 30.

“I wanted every soldier to get one and wanted to write as many as I could,” Emery said.
