Downtown TRID investment plan draws dozens of detractors, but wins a City Council approval

Pittsburgh City Council made a final, 6-3 vote to adopt an implementation plan for the Downtown Transit Revitalization Investment District (TRID) — a financing tool proposed by the Urban Redevelopment Authority to inject funding into the Golden Triangle.

The plan calls for the three local taking bodies — which, in addition to the city, includes Pittsburgh Public Schools and Allegheny County — to adopt the plan. While PPS and the county have yet to vote on the measure, the URA’s Executive Director Susheela Nemani-Stanger said during a previous council meeting that the program could still be viable if only the city voted to participate.

At a Pittsburgh City Council standing committee meeting that lasted over five hours on Wednesday, July 22, roughly 40 Pittsburghers spoke in opposition to the Downtown TRID.

The body also voted 6-3 at that time.
